Introduction iPads and other tablets are becoming a necessary tool in the workplace and are showing up everywhere. But an iPad is not a full-blown laptop. The question regularly asked by IT managers is: What changes are required to ensure a quality user experi- ence? Will the Wi-Fi network need to change to accommodate these new devices?
Handheld devices such as iPads are clearly ushering in a new era of mobile computing; but how much the existing wire- less infrastructure needs to change is less clear. Perhaps no changes are required at all. The remainder of this paper will examine the argument that more APs are required, when in fact; the quality of the vendor product is far more important. For simplicity, iPads will be used to refer more generically to most handheld mobile devices; what holds true for one is often the same for other equipment with similar size and power/battery restrictions.
