A “tri-radio” outdoor design enables the MeshMAX5054 base station to provide three types of connectivity: WiFi connectivity for access, WiFi mesh gateway for network redundancy, and WiMAX link for backhaul. The Proxim Wireless base station provides IEEE 802.11e draft quality of service (QoS) support for access on the mesh link, IEEE 802.16e support for WiMAX wireless backhaul linking, 802.1d to 802.1p priority mapping, and 802.1d to IP DSCP mapping. The MeshMAX5054 supports 802.11a and 802.11b/g clients.
The device provides 120-mph handoff speeds with 40-ms handoff times, making it suitable for use in monitoring of transportation systems , mobile security, and surveillance. All links use Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption for transmission over the air.
The Power over Internet (PoE) base station has a 110 to 240V AC input voltage and a 48V DC at 420-mA maximum output voltage. The device has a +18-dBm output power at 5 GHz and a +20-dbm at 2.4 GHz with a ±1.5-dB tolerance. An optional 110 to 240V AC light-pole power-tap power supply is also available.
- Integrates WiFi, a WiFi mesh, and a WiMAX frequencies in one device.
- Handoff speeds of120-mph with 40-ms handoff times
The device provides overlapping connectivity to provide an uninterrupted quality of service.
The design has been in the market for almost two years.
